The IMA autocannon was an automated, rapid-fire laser cannon used by the Galactic Empire around 3 ABY.
Typically mounted outside and inside Imperial bases and outposts, it was not self-contained and had to be connected to an external power source to operate. The IMA cannon used friend-or-foe algorithms that allowed it to attack targets when they displayed aggressive behavior but were not designated as friendly. Unfortunately, the cannon's weakness lay in its advanced programmability - if skilled attackers hacked into the Imperial network, they could reprogram the cannon's targeting algorithms and use it to their advantage, ordering it to attack Imperial personnel.
